Wellpoint & Construction Dewatering Rotary Lobe Pumps
Review rotary lobe pumps for wellpoint and construction dewatering duties, with attention to water and air inflow, suction layout, abrasive sediment, interrupted supply, and site power.
Request Pump SizingDistinguish Wellpoint Systems from Sump Drainage
Identify the source, collection arrangement, and discharge destination. Wellpoint headers and open sumps can impose different water-flow, air-handling, and suction requirements; provide the site’s dewatering duty and operating targets before selecting a pump.
- Wellpoint duty
- Water and air from a connected header. Provide header layout, water flow, required suction conditions, and expected air inflow where known. Water capacity alone does not describe the complete duty.
- Sump drainage
- Changing water levels and sediment. Provide normal and peak inflow, the liquid-level range, debris, and the intended start-stop or continuous operating cycle.
Suction Layout, Priming & Air Inflow
Review pump elevation, source levels, header or hose dimensions, inlet restrictions, and possible air entry. Excavation or well depth is not the same as the operating suction lift; identify measurement locations for any supplied vacuum or pressure data.
Assess priming and air-water operation against the proposed pump configuration and the complete inlet system. Include startup, normal drawdown, and low-water conditions rather than selecting from a general self-priming height.
| Review Point | Why It Matters | Data Needed |
|---|---|---|
| Inlet conditions | Levels, restrictions, and air inflow affect supply to the pump | Pump elevation, level range, header or hose size and length, air observations, required vacuum |
| Discharge duty | The outlet route determines the required transfer pressure | Water-flow range, pressure or head with units, pipe layout, elevation, fittings |
| Operating cycle | Drawdown and intermittent seepage change the duty over time | Startup sequence, inflow variation, operating hours, low-level controls, restart conditions |
Low Inflow, Seal Support & Shutdown Controls
Describe how liquid supply changes during drawdown or a dry period, and whether the pump will operate unattended. Review level or flow monitoring, alarms, shutdown criteria, and the restart sequence for the actual system.
Confirm the selected seal arrangement and its support requirements. Any allowable priming, air-water, or empty-running exposure depends on configuration, speed, duration, and controls; seal support does not establish unrestricted dry-running capability.
Silt, Sand, Debris & Wetted Materials
Describe silt and sand loading separately from gravel, concrete fragments, fibers, or geotextile debris. Check hard particles and long debris against the proposed pump’s passage geometry and review screening or settling upstream where needed.
Review rotor coverings, liners, wear plates, and seals against abrasion, water chemistry, temperature, and any concrete runoff or cleaning chemicals. Confirm replaceable parts and inspection access for the selected model rather than assuming a standard material package or wear life.
Site Power, Mobility & Service Access
Provide the available electrical supply or engine-drive requirement, operating hours, installation envelope, and relocation needs. If a skid or trailer is proposed, confirm its dimensions, mounting, hose connections, and access against the site layout.
Allow space for inspection, wear-part removal, lifting, and cleaning. Include the site’s control and monitoring requirements in the equipment review, particularly where inflow varies or the system is intended to run unattended.
