Rotary Lobe Pump FAQs
Find answers on pump selection, operation, maintenance, materials, and document requests.
Sizing, Suction Lift & Viscosity
Positive-displacement flow, suction lift, volumetric slip, and cold-start torque during project planning.
Read the Selection GuideWhat determines the available suction lift?
Available suction lift depends on the liquid, temperature, pump speed, and inlet pipework. Send the lift, pipe size and length, liquid viscosity, and required flow so the inlet conditions can be assessed for your application.
How does viscosity affect internal slip?
Liquid can pass back through rotor clearances under pressure, reducing delivered flow. Higher viscosity can reduce this internal slip, but it also affects inlet filling and drive load. Flow must be assessed with pressure, speed, and viscosity together.
Why does cold-start viscosity matter for drive sizing?
A liquid that thickens when cold can require more torque at startup than during warm operation. Provide startup and operating viscosity, temperature, and discharge conditions when selecting the motor, gearbox, and starting method.
Dry-Run & Operational Safety
Dry-exposure limits, leakage indication, and hazardous-area requirements.
Read the Dry-Run GuideCan YANESS lobe pumps run dry?
Continuous dry running should not be assumed. Any dry-exposure duty needs confirmation of the seal arrangement, cooling, speed, duration, temperature, and isolation-chamber oil condition.
Which isolation-chamber opening must remain open?
The injection hole (indicator drain) must remain open and visible to reveal seal leakage. The bottom drain hole must remain sealed after oil filling. These openings have different functions; follow the maintenance instructions for the pump model.
What information is needed for a hazardous-area application?
Provide the area classification, applicable project standard, liquid, temperature, and required documentation. The motor and complete package requirements must be confirmed for the project before a configuration is offered.
Maintenance & Rebuild
Wear components, rotor clearances, and access for service.
Read the Maintenance GuideWhat do wear plates and radial liners do?
Where fitted, replaceable wear plates and radial liners protect casing and cover surfaces from abrasive wear. Confirm the pump configuration and identify the parts using the model and serial number before ordering.
How should rotor clearances be checked after service?
Use the clearance values and assembly procedure specified for the pump model. With the equipment safely isolated, check for free rotation as instructed before restarting. Request the correct service instructions if the model or clearance values are unknown.
Can the wet end be accessed without removing the pipework?
Front-cover access may allow wet-end inspection while the pipework stays connected, depending on the build and service clearance. Isolate, lock out, depressurize, and clean the equipment under the site procedure before opening it.
Materials & Elastomers
Match wetted materials to the liquid, temperature, and cleaning process.
Read the Materials GuideHow do I choose between elastomer-coated and metal rotors?
Compare abrasion, chemical compatibility, temperature, solids, and cleaning requirements. An elastomer coating may suit some slurry duties, while other conditions require a different compound or metal rotor. Select against the actual liquid and operating conditions.
How can I reduce the risk of elastomer swelling?
Provide the liquid composition, concentration, temperature, and cleaning chemicals before choosing rotor coatings, seals, and O-rings. A compound name alone does not establish compatibility with every mixture or operating condition.
Quotes, CAD & Documents
What to send for a quotation or technical document request.
Download Brochure & Request CAD FilesWhat data is needed for a rotary lobe pump quote?
Send the liquid, flow, discharge pressure, suction conditions, operating and startup viscosity, temperature, solids, and runtime. Include installation limits and details of the existing pump where available.
Can I request STEP or DWG drawings before ordering?
Yes. Send the pump model if known, required format, and intended use through the contact page. The drawing and configuration need to match the project; see Downloads for the available request categories.
Can I submit an RFQ if some duty data is still unknown?
Yes. Send the confirmed information and clearly mark unknown values. Additional data may be needed before the model, drive, materials, or quotation can be finalized.
How do I confirm the documents required for my project?
List the manuals, drawings, inspection or test records, material records, and any certificates required by your project. Include the destination and applicable standard. Document availability and scope must be confirmed before ordering.
Still Have a Question?
Send your question with the fluid, operating conditions, and pump model if known.
