Emergency Drainage & Firefighting Support Rotary Lobe Pumps
Review rotary lobe pumps for municipal emergency drainage and source-water transfer in support of firefighting. Define the water source, required flow and pressure, hose arrangement, and deployment conditions for the actual duty.
Request Pump SizingDefine the Pump’s Role in the Emergency System
Identify whether the pump drains collected water or transfers source water to a receiving tank or other equipment. Specify the required delivery point, flow, pressure, and operating duration for each role.
- Source water
- Levels and contaminants. Describe the river, canal, sump, or flooded area, including level changes, silt, hard objects, and long or soft debris.
- Field setup
- Hoses, drive, and interfaces. Provide pump position, hose sizes and lengths, receiving pressure, available power, and the existing connection standard.
Intake Layout, Priming & Interrupted Supply
Provide the vertical distance from the lowest source level to the pump, suction hose bore and length, fittings, and intake arrangement. Assess priming using the proposed pump, seals, and complete installation, including air leaks and hose restrictions. State the required time to establish flow rather than assuming a fixed priming time.
Level changes or an exposed intake can interrupt liquid supply. Agree on seal support, level monitoring, stopping criteria, and restart procedures for the selected package. Any allowable empty-running exposure depends on configuration, speed, and duration.
| Review Point | Why It Matters | Data Needed |
|---|---|---|
| Delivery requirement | Defines the operating point and receiving interface | Flow, pressure or head with units, receiving equipment, runtime |
| Intake and hose route | Defines priming and pressure-loss review | Source levels, pump elevation, hose sizes and lengths, fittings, discharge route |
| Deployment conditions | Defines the drive, connections, and controls | Available power, access, connection standard, setup and priming requirements |
Source-Water Debris, Screening & Materials
Report hard-object sizes separately from leaves, bags, fibers, and other stringy material. Review intake screening and the selected pump’s passage dimensions together; raw-water service does not establish unrestricted debris handling.
Include sand loading, salinity, sewage, oils, or chemicals where present when reviewing wetted materials and seals. Confirm cleaning and inspection access, along with isolation and drainage before opening the pump or clearing the intake.
Hose Connections, Power & Deployment Access
Identify the existing hose coupling standard, bore, pressure rating, seals, and adapters. Confirm the actual connection options for the proposed package and compatibility with both suction conditions and discharge pressure.
Specify electrical power or engine-drive requirements, operating duration, and available fuel supply. Review access, mounting or trailer dimensions, hose handling, maintenance space, and the starting and shutdown controls included in the offer.
This page describes drainage and support water transfer. It does not establish fire-pump certification or suitability for a specified fire-protection system. Provide the project’s required duty and approvals for separate confirmation against the offered equipment.
Data for Emergency Drainage & Support Pump Sizing
- Water: source, level range, debris type and sizes, sand, salinity or contamination, and intake screening.
- Duty: drainage or support-transfer role, flow and pressure or head with units, receiving equipment, required priming time, runtime, and expected supply interruptions.
- Deployment: pump elevation, hose layout and connections, available drive and fuel or power supply, access, controls, and required project documentation or approvals.
